A wooden proto-housing to live differently

On the occasion of the “Rencontres Woodrise”, in Bordeaux, NP ROLPIN inaugurated its prototype of wooden habitat. Made from maritime pine plywood panels, Proto-habitat invites reflection on the future of housing, for more ecological and sustainable cities. The Bordeaux architecture center, Arc en Rêve, is currently exhibiting the prototype, until January 3, 2021.

The NP ROLPIN team was present, this October 6th, at the inauguration of the Proto-Habitat wood pavilion. The event took place at the Jardin Public in Bordeaux, as part of the Rencontres Woodrise.

“Despite the bad weather, we were happy to participate in this event and to see the result of this beautiful project for which we provided our Rolpin UTI plywood panels for the pavilion structure and Rolpin TRHT for the siding.”

An architectural research project

Proto-Habitat, a true architectural demonstrator, is a research project. Frédérique Barchelard and Flavien Menu, at the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici, are the inventors.

These two architects explore new ways of living, representations of home and modes of housing production. Their work focuses on architectural and urban innovation through their French and European experiences. In this way, they laid the foundations for new habitat models. Habitats in direct contact with ecological and economic issues and changes in society.

“The social, environmental and economic changes we are currently experiencing require us to change the way we think about and build the habitats of tomorrow. The innovative Proto-Habitat project thus seems to respond perfectly to this problem and could be a real solution to build a greener future.”

A wooden proto-housing in a partnership approach

Several demonstration projects have already been launched in London, Paris and now Bordeaux. This Proto-Habitat innovates both in the process of ordering the project, its realization, its design. It also innovates in financing and construction.

This is a partnership approach. The project has brought together a large chain of players: local authorities, companies in the wood industry and competitiveness clusters.

“This collaboration is a great pride for our company NP ROLPIN. The project Proto-Habitat will, in fact, enable a real breakthrough in the construction of sustainable and ecological cities.”

An exhibition in Bordeaux

Proto-Habitat now takes on its full meaning in the context of the exhibition “proto-habitat, fabriquer autrement, du prototype à l’habiter”, in Bordeaux.

“For the needs of this exhibition, we provided our TRHT maritime pine plywood panels for the realization of the supports and frames of the paintings. We are proud to have been able to contribute to this very promising project and exhibition, which we hope will be successful!”

It is currently on display, until January 3, 2021, in the white gallery of the Arc en Rêve architecture center.
